Luxurious, chic and timeless – three little words we LOVE! Get ready to hear all about Lucy and James’ stylish sophisticated wedding – it’s total bridal bliss!
Cheshire couple Lucy and James got engaged on the 26th of April 2019. James popped the question in a sweet, secluded spot whilst the couple were walking at Cleeve Hill in Cheltenham. Thankfully James knew his bride-to-be well and asked for her hand in marriage in private, which was perfect for Lucy who says her idea of hell would be a public proposal!
After postponing their nuptials for a year due to Covid, Lucy and James finally tied the knot on in August 2021 at the stunning Merrydale Manor. This exclusive country estate with picturesque views, sweeping drive and magnificent manor house was the perfect setting for this classically beautiful wedding.
Lucy and James wanted a modern yet timeless wedding theme. Simple, sleek and sophisticated with crisp white décor, delicate florals and simple greenery. Working with the brilliant design-led florist Parsley & Sage, Lucy chose quintessentially classic white roses, sweet eucalyptus and other sage greenery to encapsulate this elegant aesthetic.
Lucy’s chilled, easy-going wedding style meant she veered away from the overly traditional wedding look, and found herself instead, drawn to more modern designers that offered a different take on classically beautiful. She had already spotted Australian designer Made with Love and after trying on a variety of gowns at LOVE, Lucy chose the stunning MWL Zylah for her big day.
Perfect for the modern bride, Zylah is a knockout gown. Luxurious swirling patterns of lace cascade down over this stunning dress with its deep V neckline and plunging low lace back. Figure hugging, feminine and with amazing details, Zylah was the perfect choice for Lucy’s dream dress. Lucy chose tulle wings instead of the traditional veil as a spectacular way to elevate her modern wedding day look. They were the perfect addition to Lucy’s beautiful bridal style.
Lucy said that her experience with us at LOVE was brilliant.
“We went a few times before making my final decision and once I did decide, I asked if I could bring my Nana and Grandad to show them the dress. Emma and the team couldn’t have been more accommodating with my Nana in a wheelchair. We got them into the shop and sat them all downstairs with tea and cake whilst I came down the stairs to show them my dress. It was a very special moment which I will remember forever, so I will always be grateful for that.”
Lucy and James said that the highlight of the day was finally being able to get all the people closest to them together, especially after 18 months of everyone living with the pandemic.
“We felt so lucky and grateful to finally celebrate exactly how we had wanted to and to see everyone having such a brilliant time.”
Lucy’s top tip for brides planning their dream wedding is:
“Make a spreadsheet! You might think you can keep track of it on paper or in your head but trust me – you can’t!! It’ll help you manage it and keep you sane!”
She also adds:
“Reach out to people and treasure every moment you get to spend with friends or family in helping make those final decisions. Including people to help always gives you a bit of reassurance and support.”
Like so many couples who, after getting engaged, were faced with planning their big day during the pandemic, Lucy and James had extra-special thanks and appreciation for their amazing suppliers, many who went that extra mile to help, reassure and cater for them in such challenging times. Merrydale Manor were incredible with the multiple date moves and their outstanding management on the day. Etta Piano & Saxophone Duo for their outstanding attention to detail and AO Events for DJ’ing and keeping everyone on the dancefloor.
