Over the years we’ve been lucky enough to work with some of the UK’s top wedding suppliers. There’s certainly no doubt that creating the perfect day is a collaborative task! But, as they say, “the best collaborations create something bigger than the sum of what each person can create on their own.”

From the dress, to the make-up, accessories, flowers, venue styling, food and music… the list of people involved can be endless! But, the joy of working so closely together, to turn a couple’s vision into a reality, is that you start to form the most amazing relationships.  These are people who we recommend, trust and who inspire us!

This is an approach which we have firmly believed in from minute one of LOVE’s existence, we even had FOURTEEN (!) leading North-West photographers attend our very first photoshoot to launch LOVE back in 2012, and collaboration has become intrinsic to our DNA ever since.

So, in the spirit of collaboration and for the benefit of our LOVE brides, we’ve asked some of our favourite suppliers to write for our blog. These specially selected guest bloggers will share some of their brilliance, exclusively for you!

This week, the very talented Laura Marten from Yolk, who makes the most exquisite wedding cakes, talks about how your cake can reflect your wedding style.

I love the whole process of making a wedding cake, from that first enquiry to putting the finishing touches before the big reveal, it always feels like an honour to be asked to design such a centrepiece to someone’s big day.  Every cake I make is unique, with its own personal touches. Big or small, I aim to make something special and one of a kind. My signature style is quite rustic, slightly undone, but at the same time delicately arranged and elegantly designed.

For this blog I’m going to focus on four styles of wedding; Boho, classic, modern and romantic.

The Boho Barn Bride

She’s a laid-back bride with a keen eye for style and detail. She’s totally rocking her Sarah Seven ‘Milo’ dress and floral crown. To match her lush, colourful bouquet and bountiful floral arrangements, a bold cake decorated with a mix of flowers and foliage. With so many different flavours to choose between, from the more adventurous, to the classics and with the option to have different flavours on different tiers, there is something for everyone.

The Elegant and Classic Bride

It is all about minimal elegance for this bride. A beautiful classic silhouette in her Sassi Halford ‘Astrid’ gown, keeping it chic and elegant. Semi-naked cakes are a modern, updated version of the naked cake. You can see glimpses of the sponge underneath, but all kept nice and neat under a skimming of buttercream. Teamed with some elegant Thyme and lemon shortbread biscuits, the perfect accompaniment for a modern classic wedding.

The Modern Warehouse/Boutique Hotel Bride

I see this as a youthful, fun bride, with a bit of an edge to her. A pair of killer heels and her marigold ‘Sullivan’ Sarah Seven dress. Weddings don’t have to be a formal, stuffy event, but rather a chance to show off your personality and have a good party! The same is true with the wedding cake, there are no rules that you have to stick to. If you don’t fancy the full on four-tier showstopper, then another option would be to have mini cakes in different flavours alongside the main cake.

The Soft and Romantic Bride

She is a true romantic at heart, decked out in her Savannah Miller ‘Lucinda’ gown with a soft and delicate cake to match. An understated simple and elegant design can be as much of a showstopper as a cake abundant with flowers and foliage. Pair a minimal cake with some delicate marble shortbread biscuits to add a special touch and a favour that your guests will enjoy receiving.
