Hot trends emerging for 2018

We’re always excited to see what each new season brings in terms of bridal design and, as a bridal stylist, I have to say that seeing new trends emerge and getting sneaky peeks of new collections, is one of the favourite aspects of my job.

So, I am super giddy to share with you the key looks we have seen on the runway and are anticipating for 2018. Whether minimal or dramatic, this year’s dresses are all about celebrating the female form and individuality. Expects lots of detailing, hints towards bygone eras and some BIG statements to break the mould.

Cover up

Elegant, high necklines continue to prove popular, thanks to Pippa Middleton. As with her stunning Giles Deacon gown, these demure dresses are often seen with stunning open backs, capped sleeves and lace detailing and are ideal for those with a smaller chest.

Similarly, sleeves are everywhere! From Elizabethan bell sleeves to sheer full-length sleeves with pearl detailing to separate statement armwear! These are practical for the winter bride and look oh, so incredible as a dramatic twist to an elegant gown.

We’ve been raving about Sarah Seven’s Marigold ‘Sullivan’ dress recently and loved showcasing it to surprised brides-to-be during our Wedding Edit catwalk, back in October. This trend towards colour looks set to continue with dusky pink shades emerging and dramatic black! Yes, you read that right. This confident new statement colour is appearing as ribbons adorning dresses, in gloves and hairpieces as accessories and as the full dress – not for the faint-hearted, but certainly one for the drama queen!

Whether as dainty embellishments, shoulder adornments or giant statement bows on the bum, bows are back in a big way, and in hair accessories too!  Far from the stiff style of the 80’s though, 2018 bows are soft, relaxed and sometimes even undone.

Feather accents

These whimsical touches are featuring in skirts, capes and veils and create a dreamy air, softening your look for day, ready to reveal a more stand-out silhouette for evening.

Capes & capelets

Hot news for 2018, cover-ups have been seen in all guises, from pretty, lacy, shoulder capelets through to full length capes which are occasionally being favoured over the traditional veil.  Every designer seems to be featuring one in their latest collections, but we simply love Savannah Miller’s ‘Marlowe’ cape that comes in a simple plain chiffon, with tiny pearls or even mesmerising stars.

Sheer illusion

Illusion necklines, sheer sleeves and translucent fabrics are set to gain further momentum in 2018. Often embellished with sparkle, pearls and embroidery, they have an almost medieval beauty and are truly enticing finishes to simply cut dresses.

Two pieces

From tailored trousers and jackets to mix & match bodice and skirts, bridal separates are still hot news as brides take control to find their perfect combination, but in a constantly evolving way.  We love the bold move towards fashion-forward pieces such as tailored jackets, biker jackets and stunning jumpsuits.
